Mr. Dalling won the DHS-HQ Security Engineer of the year award for his leadership and innovation rebuilding the DHS HQ SOC. David created and managed content generation and Splunk Dashboards for the SOC using Splunk ES. He built interactive tools to help the analysts in their day-to-day tasks which reduced investigation time by 60% and also reduced the amount of SLA failures. Mr. Dalling won the DHS-HQ Security Engineer of the year award for his leadership and innovation rebuilding the DHS HQ SOC. David created and managed content generation and Splunk Dashboards for the SOC using Splunk ES. He built interactive tools to help the analysts in their day-to-day tasks which reduced investigation time by 60% and also reduced the amount of SLA failures. Mr. Dalling created a SOC dashboard and new pass-down procedure which increased record keeping and improved communication. With the addition of these two tools the SLA failures were eliminated. Once this was complete for David’s team, he worked with sub-SOCs to unify the reporting and create standardized reporting scheme, he then developed an overview dashboard to show correlation between SOCs and create a true picture of the State of Security of the entire environment.
