Role Overview
The Infra Engineering Enterprise Architect HCI is responsible for defining, designing, and governing the next-generation infrastructure architecture with a strong focus on Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI). The role requires expertise in enterprise architecture frameworks, modern cloud-ready infrastructure patterns, HCI platforms, virtualization, and DevOps-driven automation.
The architect will enable modernization by developing reference architectures, guiding solution design, and ensuring seamless integration across private cloud, hybrid cloud, and virtualized environments. The role contributes to strategy, standards, innovation, and technical leadership across engineering teams.
This role is expected to lead architecture and design teams, support opportunity shaping, develop solutions, strengthen capabilities, and contribute thought leadership through POVs, frameworks, accelerators, and reusable assets.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Design
- Architect end-to-end secure Hyper-Converged Infrastructure- HCI (on-prem, hybrid, or multi-cloud) solutions using VMware vSAN, VxRail, Nutanix, and other software-defined platforms.
- Define target-state infrastructure architectures aligned with enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF/Zachman).
- Develop cloud-ready infrastructure patterns integrating on-prem, edge, and hybrid environments.
- Create HLD/LLD documents, architecture blueprints, reference architectures, and design standards.
- Lead architecture assessments, capacity planning, performance engineering, HA/DR design, and lifecycle modernization.
- Define Network topology (leaf-spine, VLAN/VXLAN, SDN), Micro-segmentation (NSX / Flow)
- Architect business continuity Stretched clusters, Metro clusters.
- Architect data protection and DR solutions using Veeam, Zerto, SRM, or native replication technologies.
- Define observability and monitoring strategy using tools such as vRealize, Prometheus, Splunk, or Nutanix Prism.

HCI Platforms & Virtualization
- Lead architecture for VMware vCloud, vSphere, vSAN, and SDDC solutions.
- Design Nutanix-based solutions including AHV, AOS, Files, Objects, Xi, and Flow micro-segmentation.
- Integrate HCI stacks with Red Hat platform architecture, including RHV, OpenShift OpenStack, or automation tooling.
- Drive infrastructure automation, orchestration, and policy-based governance for HCI clusters.
- Drive storage virtualization, SDS adoption, cluster scaling, capacity forecasting, and lifecycle governance.
- Define policies for resource pools, multi-tenancy, storage tiers, QoS, and workload placement.
- Architect backup, replication, encryption, key management, and compliance controls for HCI workloads.
- Ensure interoperability with existing SAN/NAS, IP storage, and disaggregated infrastructure.
DevOps & Automation
- Align HCI architecture with private cloud frameworks and Red Hat Cloud Architecture principles.
- Define infrastructure automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Python, Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools.
- Integrate HCI infrastructure with DevOps pipelines for provisioning, configuration, security, and validation.
- Govern CI/CD adoption for infrastructure platforms and self-service provisioning.
Enterprise Architecture & Governance
- Apply enterprise architecture frameworks to build future-state roadmaps, architecture guardrails, and decision models.
- Define governance frameworks for infrastructure modernization, cloud integration, and platform standards.
- Evaluate emerging technologies including Agentic AI frameworks and their impact on next-gen infrastructure.
- Conduct architecture reviews and ensure alignment with compliance, security, and operational risk controls.
GenAI & Emerging Technologies
- Lead adoption of Generative AI within HCI, DevSecOps, and platform engineering ecosystems.
- Practical experience with LLMs, embeddings, vector databases, and retrieval frameworks.
- Architect Agentic AI systems enabling multi-agent orchestration, reasoning, and autonomous operations.
- Strong understanding of the AI lifecycle, ML pipelines, supervised/unsupervised algorithms, NN, NLP.
- Skilled in prompt engineering, AI evaluation methods, and applying AI to infrastructure operations.

Technical Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Conduct architecture workshops, promote standardized patterns, and evangelize best practices.
- Guide engineering teams through design, implementation, migration, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with platform OEMs, cloud providers, and cross-functional teams during solution development.
- Support RFP/RFI, solution proposals, and pre-sales activities related to HCI and infrastructure modernization.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of HCI platforms (VMware vSAN, Nutanix, HyperFlex, Redhat openShift etc.).
- Solid knowledge of virtualization (VMware, Hyper V, OpenShift), storage, networking, and compute.
- Strong understanding of SDS, SAN, storage architectures, caching, replication.
- Solid networking knowledge: L2/L3, BGP/OSPF, VLAN/VXLAN, SDN solutions.
- Skills in DevOps, CI/CD, automation, scripting (PowerShell/Python), and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).
- Experience creating architecture models, solution designs, and transformation roadmaps.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams during design and implementation.
- Proficiency in Python for infrastructure automation, orchestration, and tooling.
- Expertise in AI concepts including LLMs, Agentic AI, data pipelines, ML fundamentals, and prompt engineering.
- Strong client-facing, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications
- 8 10 years of experience in datacenter architecture, infrastructure engineering, or enterprise architecture.
- Advanced certifications: VMware, Nutanix, Dell EMC VxRail, Red Hat OpenShift
- Resource needs to be AI Ready.
